For most NFL players this is the preseason. However, there are some solid veterans that have yet to be signed. This isn’t an uncommon thing in the NFL. After a player has been in the league for several years, one might decide to skip the preseason in order to preserve his health. On the other hand some might have to wait for an injury to find a team. Here is where the notable remaining free agents should sign.
Colin Kaepernick to the Jacksonville Jaguars
Kaepernick is an athletic, strong armed quarterback. However, his footwork in the pocket is terrible, he makes a habit of throwing to football across his body, he has accuracy issues, and he has trouble diagnosing a defense, but he some how finds a way to win a lot of the time. That is more than what the Jaguars current starting quarterback can say now. It’s so bad even the teammates are starting to turn against starting quarterback Blake Bortles. If Kaepernick wants to start, the Jaguars could be his only hope at this point, unless he wants to wait on an injury.

Leon Hall to the Buffalo Bills
The Bills have made a lot of changes over the off-season. With a new head coach and front office this team is in the midst of changing its identity. Unfortunately, that meant players had to go. Star cornerback Stephon Gilmore departed in free agency and Ronald Darby was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. The moves leave rookie cornerback Tre’Davious White at the top of the depth chart. Enter Leon Hall. Although Hall is now 32 years old, he remains a solid cornerback in the league. Hall would bring a veteran presence and some needed help to the Bills secondary.

Mario Williams to the New Orleans Saints
The saints have no problems scoring on offense, but stopping opponents from scoring has been a big problem for the Saints; specifically against the pass. Surprisingly the Saints made very few moves to fix the issue. Drafting Marshon Lattimore should help, the rookie will need help, and it all starts up front by pressuring the quarterback. Mario Williams was the number overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft by the Houston Texans. He’s also spent time with the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins. At 97.5 sacks in his career, he is only 2.5 sacks shy of hitting to 100 sack mark in his career.
Vincent Jackson to the Kansas City Chiefs
After releasing Jeremy Maclin, the Chiefs lack a true number one wide receiver. Tyreek Hill and Chris Conley have promise, but are not proven. Jackson is 34 years old and has had trouble staying healthy the last few years, but he’s been productive over his career. At 6’5 Jackson isn’t the receiver he use to be, but he could be a cheap option with experience. If Alex Smith was to go down, or the Chiefs just decided to go with Pat Mahomes, having a big experienced receiver never hurt the growth of a young quarterback; it worked out well for Jameis Winston.

Ryan Mathews to the Indianapolis Colts
Frank Gore continues to defy father time, but how much longer can that last? Bringing in Mathews would take pressure off Gore, and potentially be the replacement in the future. Mathews was drafted 12th overall by the now LA Chargers in 2010. He has the talent, but he just hasn’t been able to stay healthy throughout his NFL career.
Branden Albert to the Carolina Panthers
Albert a former pro-bowl left tackle was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the decided to retire. After learning he would owe the Jaguars money for retiring Albert decided to come back, but the Jaguars released him afterwards. If Albert truly wants to continue his career, the Panthers could be a match made in heaven. The Panthers have good players across the board, but have trouble protecting quarterback Cam Newton.

LaDarius Green to the Houston Texans
In Green’s time with the Chargers he looked like the next big thing at tight end behind Antonio Gates. Eventually Green’s contract expired and Gates has yet to retire, so Green departed to the Pittsburgh Steelers. While with the Steelers Green was unable to stay healthy and wasn’t asked to come back in 2017. The Houston Texans currently have C.J Fiedorowicz, but he isn’t the athlete Green is.
