Juventus: Italy’s Most Insane Team

Juventus FC made history last week as a 2-1 win over Fiorentina gave them their 8th straight Seria A title. Juve’s women squad also claimed the women’s Serie A championship with a 3-0 win over Verona.

A League Of Their Own

There is no match for the Italian squad in Serie A. The newly crowned champions hold a 20 points lead over second-place Napoli. What’s more, they won the league with a little over a month of soccer left to play. Not only have they made history as a team, but one of their players also made some history of his own.

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player in history to win the Premier League, La Liga and, the Serie A. The Portuguese striker is making a big impact on the team. He leads the team in goals scored with 19 goals in 27 appearances. His goal total more than doubles Mario Mandzukic’s tally of 8 goals.

Everything is going well for them in Italy, but what about the Champions League?

Axed By Ajax

Juventus survived their early Champions League scare against Atletico de Madrid. Ronaldo solely saved his team from defeat by scoring a hat trick at home to keep them alive. Up next was Ajax, a team of doubtful credibility as they defeated a troubled Real Madrid in the round of 16.

The Italian team ground out a tie in the first leg in Turin and seemed to be ready for a war in their second match at home. Ronaldo did his part in the second match. However, the rest of the squad left a lot to be desired. Ajax took Juventus by storm as their midfield became a wall and few balls went through and both Dusan Tadic and Donny van de Beek made the game a living hell for Juventus’ defense.

Italy’s Most Insane Team

This team’s Champions League failures have become a trend. It was Massimiliano Allegri who was in charge back in 2015 when Juve fell flat against Barcelona in the final in Berlin. 2017 was no different when Real Madrid crushed them in Cardiff. Their outcome was the same two years later as the €112 million spent on the Portuguese striker did not bring any continental success.

Insanity can be defined as doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. This holds true for Juventus. Their approach to soccer has not changed in recent years. Win in Italy and fail everywhere else. Juve’s board of directors has a choice to make over the next couple of months. Sacking the man in charge or, redeem themselves with another meaningless title next year.
