NBA Conference Finals Preview

Who will be left standing?

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The NBA conference finals begin on Mother’s Day this year and ironically so. LeBron James has been putting together the mother of all playoff runs. Right now the 15 year vet is averaging a sensational 34.3 points 9 rebounds and 10.2 assist per game. These type of stats are unheard of for a player this deep in his career. King James seeks his 8th straight Finals appearance. The only thing standing in his way is an inexperienced Celtics team missing its star player. On the other side of the country the Rockets look to knock off the Golden State Warriors and prove the defending champs aren’t invincible.

The Cavs are lead by the aforementioned LeBron James. Although they came into the playoffs as just the 4 seed, they have proven why they are consistently the odds on favorite to represent the conference in the finals. While the majority of the time they are indeed a one man show, lately Kevin Love and the supporting cast has come on strong. They made their way to this point by dispatching the pesky Pacers and embarrassing top seeded Toronto.  Now with old nemesis Boston on the horizon they look to keep the momentum going and push forward.

The Celtics have gone through hell and high-water to get to where they are. From losing both key free agent acquisitions well before the playoffs even started to knocking two teams filled with young studs. Boston has more than proved their worth. They are composed of a gritty cast of characters from back up point guard Terry Rozier and tough Philly native Marcus Morris to young studs Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown. The Celtics have taken the conference by storm with their never say die attitude.

The Warriors have surprised no one. We all could for see them playing basketball well in to late May with no problem. But this season is a little different. This year they have stiff competition. This year they are without the home court advantage. And this year they are not the only one’s with a star studded backcourt. While Kevin Durant has been impressive averaging 28 points per contest he’ll have to be at the top of his game if the champs are to move on from the conference finals.

Led by Chris Paul and James Harden the Rockets posted the leagues best record. They have become one of the most dominant teams in recent memory. The Rockets believe they are truly read to challenge the vaunted Warriors for western conference superiority. Harden has a chip on his shoulder and is determined to prove he is the leagues MVP and best offensive player. And CP3 is desperate to shake off the reputation of not being able to win the big one. This is their chance and they don’t intend to squander it.
