The Milwaukee Brewer defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third game of the NLCS.
Brewers Feed Off Mistake
Jhoulys Chacin and Walker Buehler faced off at the pitching mound in the third fame of the series.
The Brewers went straight to work as they took the lead early. Buehler struggled with command on the early goings. Christian Yelich worked out a walk. The walk was followed with an RBI double by Ryan Braun to give Milwaukee the lead. Chacin had an easy first inning of work as he retired the side in order.
The Dodgers’ starter recovered from his early mistakes as the game moved along. He left a man stranded on base on the second frame and then retired the side in order. Chacin hanged the zero in the second as well despite loading up the bases. Defense was the name of the game during the first innings of play
The Calm Before The Storm
Runs were hard to come by in the middle innings as well. Both pitchers held their ground in the fourth and fifth innings. Travis Shaw hit a triple off the centerfield wall in the top of the sixth. Minutes later, Shaw scored thanks to a wild pitch. Brewers were now up by two as the score was 2-0.
Chacin left the game after a fielding error by Mike Moustakas allowed Justin Turner to reach second base. Corey Knebel came in from the bullpen and got the final two outs of the inning. The Venezuelan born starter pitched 5.1 innings, allowed three hits and struck out six batters.
Arcia Comes Up Big
Buehler showed signs of fatigue to begin the seventh. He gave up a double to catcher Erik Kratz. His fatigue was more evident as he left a pitched hanging right down the middle only for Orlando Arcia to hit it over the wall. The Brewers blew the game open with a 4-0 score. The Dodgers were retired in order by Knebel in the bottom frame of the seventh inning.
Alex Wood came in to replace Buehler to begin the eighth. He was crucial for the Dodgers as he prevented the deficit from growing any larger. He kept Los Angeles’ hopes alive. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, they were still unable to close the gap between them and the Brew Crew. Joakim Soria and Josh Hader retired Los Angeles in order in the eighth. Milwaukee was three outs away from the victory
Jeremy Jeffress came in on the bottom of the ninth to close thing out for the Brewers. Jeffress was ineffective to begin the frame as he allowed two straight hits, putting two men on scoring position. He then walked Yasiel Puig to load the bases with just one out. Jeffress held on to the lead as he ended the game with two straight strikeouts.
Final Score: Brewer 4- Dodgers 0
Where To Watch
Brewers and dodgers will meet up for game four of the series this Tuesday. Game four will be crucial for both teams’ playoff hopes. The ballgame starts at 9:09 PM E.T on FS1.
