The Milwaukee Brewers have swept the Colorado Rockies winning three games out of five in the NLDS.
Nail Bitter At Milwaukee
Game one saw Brandon Woodruff and Antonio Senzatela square off at the mound. Woodruff set up a strong start for Milwaukee as he threw three spotless innings to begin the ballgame. Senzatela, on the other hand, pitched a total on five innings. Despite being relatively solid on his innings at work, the Rockies’ pitcher had a shaky start. He earned two runs as Christian Yelich homered in the bottom of the third. Yelich brough Lorenzo Cain home with him, putting the score 2-0 for the Brewers. The ballgame then became a tight pitching duel as both bullpens kept the score as it was. That was until Jeremy Jeffress came in to relief for Milwaukee.
Jeffress was one out away from finishing the game until Charlie Blackmon hit an RBI single splitting the lead in half. After a fielding error, Nolan Arenado hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score in the ninth. Milwaukee fans did not have to wait long as Mike Moustakas hit an RBI single to centerfield to win the game. The final score was 2-3 and the Brewers were one game up in the series.
The Late Inning Brewing Company
The second game of the series was set to be another tight ballgame. Nonetheless, the late innings were key to the outcome of the game once again. Jhoulys Chacin faced off on the mound against Tyler Anderson. Ander sailed smoothly through the first three innings until he hit a bump in the road on the fourth. Hernan perez hit for a ground rule double in the fourth frame, Allowing Moustakas to score. The Brewers were up by one. Anderson pitched six full innings. The game was still up for grabs until the late innings. Moustakas hit another RBi single allowing David Dahl and Yelich to score. Minutes later Gerardo Parra did the same as he allowed Ryan Braun to score the final run the game. The game ended 4-0 in what was a lopsided affair. Milwaukee was two games up and one game away from the NLCS.
A Bitter End For Colorado
The series moved to Coors Field in Colorado as the Rockies looked to avoid being swept at home. German Marquez got the ball for Colorado for the first time since the league tiebreaker. Wade Miley did the same for Milwaukee. The Brewers went early on the attack as Travis Shaw hit an RBI groundouts allowing Yelich to score. Brewers were up by one in the very first inning.
Jesus Aguilar added one more to the scoreboard in the top of the fourth with a solo home run. Colorado’s offense felt flat and Colorado was unable to get on the scoreboard Moustakas scored on a balk by pitcher Scott Oberg on the sixth frame. The balk was followed by a wild pitch by Oberg allowing Curtis Granderson to score. Milwaukee added two more runs to the tally as Orlando Arcia and Keon Broxton hit solo home runs in the top of the ninth inning. The Rockies were once again shut down by Milwaukee with a 6-0 score.
The Brewers are the first team to make their way into the League Championship Series. The now await their rival for the NLCS.
