Antonio Gates Agrees To Deal with LA

Rivers and Gates to take One Last Ride

Not many NFL tight ends have had the career of Antonio Gates. Many might say Gates has lost a step and is not the same player he used to be. But that didn’t stop the 16 year veteran from reuniting with a few of his old running buddies, and donning the lightning bolts one more time. The Chargers all time leading pass catcher has resigned with the team for 2018 season, this comes much to the delight of one signal caller

One Last Run

Its no secret that Antonio Gates is near the end of his stellar career. A career where he has amassed over 11,000 yards, over 900 receptions, and 114 touchdowns. Therefore it’s no surprise he is only back on a one year deal. This is more than likely the last hoorah for the future first ballot hall of  famer. And if that is the case he has nothing to be ashamed of . With only  Tony Gonzalez presumably ahead of him, he is arguably the 2nd greatest tight end of his generation. Having a resume that includes 8 Pro Bowls and 3 All Pro selections Gates has earned the right to go out on his own terms.

What To Expect

What to expect is simple. You can expect one of the leagues all time greatest QB/TE collaborations to hook up whenever necessary. There is no better security blanket for Philip Rivers than his partner in crime number 85. The Duo has hooked up for an NFL record 87 TD’s, more than any quarterback tight end tandem. If a game changing play is to be made this season best believe 17 and 85 will be involved. And if history is any indicator they won’t disappoint. And because this signing comes on the heels of a season ending injury to starter Hunter Henry, expect Gates to be targeted early and often.
