(1) Boston Celtics vs (2) Cleveland Cavaliers
The Boston Celtics are the most impressive basketball club in the world right now. A team getting the first seed and reaching the Conference Finals, all whilst locking up the number one pick in for the NBA Draft.
The Celtics have a significant coaching advantage with Brad Stevens. He has brought a team led by a 5’9 point guard surrounded by B to B+ role players to the Eastern Conference Finals. They are arguably the best run organization in the league right now.
The Cavaliers, on the other hand, have arguably the best basketball player the world has ever seen in LeBron James. He is currently playing as well as he ever has. James is at a career high in many categories this post season, eclipsing numbers he reached during his Miami Heat days.
James is now averaging a 55% shooting percentage and a ridiculous 46% from 3-point range, shooting an average of five threes a game. He is playing basketball with so much confidence and arrogance.
He’s reached a point in his career at 32-years-old of supreme confidence where he knows he is not only the best player in the league and everyone is chasing him but also arguably the best player ever, ever.
At this point, the Celtics are not close to the Cavaliers. They have a solid overall team but their lack of a star player over 6-feet is going to weigh tremendously heavy on them. They will not be able to hide Isiah Thomas on defense.
Do not be surprised if Tyronn Lue constantly tries to call pick-n-roll players where either Kyrie Irving or James go up against Isaiah Thomas. The defensive work Thomas is going to have to do is going to cost him on the offensive end of the court.
If Thomas cannot be the catalyst on offense, the Celtics have even less of a chance at even one game this series. The only way the Celtics are going to win a game or two is for Avery Bradley to be even better than he usually is on defense and have a game or two where he scores 24-plus points.
Unfortunately for the Celtics and their beloved fan base, it is all going to come to an end here against the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers are going to roll the Celtics and find themselves going up against the Golden State Warriors for an epic round three of the NBA Finals. The Celtics have a nice seven, to maybe nine, man rotation but it will not be enough to move forward. LeBron James wants to see the new look Warriors in the Finals.
